About

Damian Le Bas was born in Sheffield, UK, in 1963. He died at his home in Worthing on the 9th of December, 2017.

Initiator of the Roma Biennale, a passion project for which he advocated tirelessly over many years. Tragically, he was unable to see the project come to fruition due to his untimely death only four months before the event.

Part of the Outsider Art and Art Brut movement since the 1980s.

He has exhibited extensively in major art galleries internationally.

He was one of the sixteen artists who were part of the First Roma Pavilion Paradise Lost at Venice Biennale 2007.

Damian Le Bas was married for 34 years to artist and collaborator Delaine Le Bas. Delaine continues to carry on their vision of changing people’s perceptions of the disenfranchised, persecuted and other outsiders through their art and installations.

Their son is poet and writer Damian James Le Bas, author of The Stopping Places: a Journey through Gypsy Britain.
